Today has been the perfect Sunday where I spent a good chunk of it lying down in total relaxation! This was all in the name of learning - I was on a Yoga Nidra course!
What is Yoga Nidra?
Yoga Nidra or “yogic sleep” is a guided relaxation practice that explores the liminal space between wakefulness & sleep. It enables you to discover a deeply restful and meditative state while maintaining awareness.
Once you find a comfortable position, you will be guided into a state of deep relaxation through visualisation, intention setting, grounding & breathing techniques.
You can practice Yoga Nidra at any time of the day to reset & unwind.
Yoga Nidra can help you to:
☾ Improve your sleep quality
☾ Enhance your creativity
☾ Reduce stress & anxiety
☾ Work on your mind-body connection
& reconnect with your true self.
It’s a tool that I often use when I’m struggling to sleep - if I put on a 20-minute Yoga Nidra recording, I am often asleep within minutes. It’s even ok if you fall asleep during class! You might actually be more aware of your surroundings than you realise!
During the day of training, we learned more about yoga nidra, how to structure a class and I got to experience several guided practices, so I am incredibly chilled out for a Sunday evening. I’m looking forward to sharing this practice with you in upcoming classes so you too can experience this deep state of rest.
To end the course, another student described the practice: “Profoundly simple and simply profound”. This perfectly sums it up!
If you’d like to join me as I guide you through this practice, check out my timetable for my upcoming classes. Or, if you can’t wait to experience Yoga Nidra for yourself, I’d highly recommend the Insight Timer app. The free tier of the app has many recordings you can choose from so you can try out a few and see which teachers and styles you prefer.
Have you tried yoga nidra before or would you like to find out more? Feel free to reach out via social media, I’m always happy to answer questions or discuss more!
I hope to see you on the mat soon!
